Every year we pick an organization to donate proceeds to during Pride. This year, we're committed to donating 20% of all website sales from June to the Whitman Walker Foundation.
Whitman-Walker, a local healthcare organization, is a leader in LGBTQ health, research, education and policy with special expertise in HIV care. This January, they celebrated their 50th anniversary as part of the Washington DC community. This organization has spent the past five decades responding to community need including LGBTQ healthcare, gender affirming care, HIV prevention and treatment, and research designed to impact the lives of those they serve.
From their website: Beginning in 1973 and named in 1978 after poet Walt Whitman (a former DC resident) and Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, a noted Civil-War era physician in DC and woman’s rights activist, Whitman-Walker was founded as an affirming and safe space for the gay and lesbian community and was one of the first responders to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in DC. The Whitman-Walker Clinic opened in the 1990’s in Northwest DC and later opened the Max Robinson Center allowing the organization to expand its reach and patient profile and to become a leader in HIV/AIDS education, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
As a longstanding member of the LGBTQ community in Washington DC, we appreciate the consistent hard work and care they have provided in our area and hope our donation this month helps further their work in some way.
